WinMe definitely should not use the ASPI layer.

I have had problems with programs using the ASPI layer in Win2K

- after running such a program, the OS becomes unstable

some programs which will run in that OS with the ASPI layer
cause problems.

I have other software which fouls the system badly using ASPI.

The latest Adaptec ASPI layer is tolerated in Win2K, but
applications (other than CDRWin) which use it tend to make my system
unstable

In my experience, the ASPI layer itself can exist in Win2K

Some programs use it without doing any damage;
others leave the system unstable.

What are these programs that leave the system unstable, using aspi?

But then you just wrote:

Nonsense. I use the Adaptec ASPI layer on my Win2K machine in spite
of it not being supported there and in spite of some applications
which use it being unstable in the OS.
----------------------

What are these applications that become unstable, using aspi?

Do these programs get unstable themselves and at the same time make the
OS unstable, just by using aspi?

You did not wade in with "small but critical point" drivel to this. Why
not, Mikey? Did you agree with William Leech's cockamamie, Mikey?

I've had to recover a W2K machine where ASPI had been used.
Likewise a WinMe machine.

The cause was definitely the ASPI layer.
