Default Good DVD-Rom (brand) ?

So, as Toshiba dont make their own drives anymore (they were the best by a mile in my expierience, now they are just rebranded Samsung drives and way worse), whats a good DVD-Rom to buy?
Plextor is inaceptable as such a drive is the reason I have to get a new one, that damn drive cant read nothing but pressed DVDs reliable (and this was the case since day one).

Criteria a
1) IDE
2) best possible error-correction (ie does a good job reading scratched Media).
3) good speed
