Windows pop ups
Running XP Pro.
Two items are in my system tray. One is Java and the Other Windows. Everytime I turn the computer on, both pop up telling me there are updates available. \ I once let Java install and it screwed my computer up, had to use Restore and I won't let it install but I can't figure out how to get rid of it. The other is a Windows Update about authenticaty the Windows. Again I do not want it to pop up, It just started a month ago. And I can't find out to get rid or disable it. |

You can turn off automatic updates for both Java, and WinXP. For Java, I always uninstall the previous version before installing the newer version. You can install the WinXP updates manually. |

As the other said, you can turn off automatic updating in Control Panel. As for "authenticating Windows", see he http://weblog.infoworld.com/foster/2...a393.html#a393 Microsoft is currently running a very sleazy campaign, installing "Windows Genuine Advantage" nags on a number of XP machines that have auto-updating enabled. The new software comes with a Mickey Mouse EULA that forbids you from uninstalling it or crticizing it. |
