Printer cable of on (plasticky) Shiny Paper (Not photo paper)
Hi
I would like the ability to print on shiny paper (not photo paper) the kind of paper that drops through your door all too often with adverts on for something you do not require. I have tried a few inkjets and a laser printer, the ink from the inkjets does not soak in to the paper so it runs. The laser is good for about 2 sheets after which it gets too hot and the paper starts to melt. Anyone know of a laser that runs coolish? or any other kind of printer that will achieve the desired results? TIA Andrew |

Ink jets all spray liquid ink and all laser printers work by melting and
ironing the toner which is very fine powdered plastic onto the paper. The only printer that I think will work is a vinyl printers. My old Alphs may work but I have never tried it. BTW Alphs printers haven't been sold for awhile. wrote in message ups.com... You aren't going to find this type of printer outside of a commercial environment. http://www.imagers.com/digiprint/pressGEN.html Although you could try talking to someone at Kinko's and see what type of paper they use in the Color laser copiers. I believe Xerox color is the only one that comes close to the quality you're trying to achieve. -- Rev. G.G. For example, I have some HammerMill Color Laser Glosspaper, item number 16311-0. It is white, brightness 90, 32 lb.paper"for all color laser printers and color copiers". It has one drawback - it is only recommended for use in the hand-feed tray. Although HammerMill does not recommend using thispaperwith an ink-jet, some kinds of ink may dry sufficiently fast that it isn't smeared by thepaper-handling rollers. You can get white and clear plastic materials for making bumper stickers, view-graphs and decals on an ink-jet. Therefore it should be possible to find a thin glossypaperfor ink-jets. In all cases however, it depends on how fast your particularprinter'sink dries. Fred Hi Fred Thanks for the response. Just a couple of clarifications required I think. Firstly I am not overly concerned with quality. Also I realise I have not made it clear that I am after over printing on existing adverts which come on shiny plasticky paper, so no control on the media. Andrew |

Hi Thanks for that, I have just done a search on good old ebay and there is an Alps printer there that I think will do the job. Looks like they still demand good price so you should dig yours out if you are not using it. Andrew |

Hi
Thanks for that, I have just done a search on good old ebay and there is an Alps printer there that I think will do the job. Looks like they still demand good price so you should dig yours out if you are not using it. Just so you know, I believe Alphs is no longer going to make the ribbons. So the ribbons are going to get harder to find. |
