Computer not detecting RAM!!!
Hi
I have an MS6714 motherboard, Intel P4, mPGA 478 pin package Intel 82845GE Graphics Memory Controller Hub I have just clipped in a DDR RAM 1024MB - this is my only chip in the system On booting up, it doesn't load windows XP Professional The first time it booted up, it gave me an lsass.exe error, but that has not appeared since the first attempt at booting I can only get in via safe mode In safe mode I go to Control PanelSystem, where it tells me I have only 32MB of RAM Before buying, I asked the shop to test the RAM & they said it worked fine I don't know what to do, or where to go. :-( Please help. |

Is it fitted correctly ?. Here`s the specs for that board. http://www.msicomputer.com/product/p...model=845GEM-L bw.. |

At the 1GB size, in DDR, there are two types of RAM. The stuff in the right hand column, uses 128Mx4 chips. Each chip has a 4 bit data interface. Notice how the list of chipsets that work with that RAM is limited. There are no Intel chipsets in the list. That stuff is popular on Ebay, because it is cheap and unbranded. I did find it is JEDEC approved and the construction method does appear in a JEDEC document, but Intel doesn't approve of the stuff. http://www.portatech.com/catalog/memory.asp?ID=285 On some chipsets, the RAM in the right hand column, is half detected. For example, an Nforce2 chipset will only detect 512MB of RAM, if you were to use the RAM in the right hand column. So I would be checking the type of the RAM. The shop may have "tested it", but if they used a motherboard with a KT600 chipset, then the test results don't mean anything compared to an 845GE motherboard. You want to buy branded RAM with proper 64Mx8 type chips on it. This is an example of a Kingston DIMM that uses the right kind of chips (64Mx8): http://www.valueram.com/datasheets/KHX3200_1G.pdf Paul |
