F9 bios - 8knxp
has anyone used the f9 bios yet?
i've installed the f8 bios crippling my machine because it was meant for the ultra version, and not the non ultra version - in which i complained and though they never replied they did come out with this new version. so before i mess up my machine again, has anyone tried it yet? does it work? is it better? i want to see if it will let me install this stupid sound card. i think the bios (f6) is preventing windows from seeing the PCI slots - as i can't install anything at all when something is plugged into it. thanks ---Mike Savad |

Sorry Mike,
It took me a while but I was finally able to flash from f6-f7-f8-f9 successfully anf all is working fine. I never had a problem with my Audigy in the f6 bios. I just had a problem with my raid arrays ...f9 fixed that. Try flashing in steps from f6 to f7 then immediately go to f8 etc. Be sure to set defaults as you go each time and diasable Hyperthreading. i can't just jump from f6 to f9? You should be able to. A new BIOS is a complete image including all prior updates. the last time i used f8, i couldn't get into my system at all. it turned off the access to the drives. it made them think that they were something else (the scsi) instead of the usual drivers they are. do you know if this f9 bios does anything else? are there more option in the bios? or is it just for that raid? I've found that some BIOS upgrades, not necessarily yours, fix problems sometimes and the manufacturer doesn't list any changes in the changelog. Sometimes, they even work worse than before. -- Big Daddy Ruel Smith My SuSE Linux machine uptime: 3:56pm up 41 days 0:42, 2 users, load average: 0.16, 0.29, 0.18 My Windows XP machine uptime: Something less... |

I jumped straight from F6 to F9 without drama.
I would not go via the buggy F7 and F8's. What makes people think this is necessary? Be careful to load setup defaults after flashing. IE read and follow the instructions to the letter.
