Default sound goes off

Every once in a while my pc sound kinda disappears. If I reboot or even just
logoff and logon, it comes back. I have a wireless desktop (keyboard +
mouse) with sound controls on it, but this only started happening a while a
go and I've had that for a while. What can this be? It is really
annoying!...
