It's possible to emulate the functionality OK, but very difficult to
emulate the timing. For game code, this can be a big problem.

Any code that isn't synchronized, if at all, to external events or only
is required to meet certain deadlines, is broken by design - e.g., all
code written to execute fixed delay loops. I also consider calibrated
delay loops to be pretty much broken. Code relying on ryce conditions to
work should be deleted, and the perpetrator given the treatment reserved
in China for traitors. Unfortunately, even well-respected OSes contain some
of this type of code, mostly in drivers.
