Did you read the docs at the link I posted before? That explains speed
step. It's all part of the battery saving scheme.

Yes but doesn't works...

The power scheme is set to MAX performarce in the power management and the
AC is ON.
When I suspend (on ram) the laptop, when I resume it goes on 500MHz...
without possibility to change it.

I would be to enable the 700MHz by click...

I've read the tips... thanks, but can't solves my problems.
When I came back from a suspend the notebook goes at 500MHz.

When I go in hybernate mode (that power-off then power-on the notebook) the
laptop resume on 700MHz.

I don't have Speedstep with my version of Windows XP OEM version from
Gateway.

Here is what Wikipedia says about Speedstep. Although Wikipedia is also
not known for 100% accurate either.

Speedstep exists (or doesn't) in the chipset; it's hardware, not software.

But, if you have the hardware and don't install the driver for it, you
may find yourself "locked" at the SLOW speed, lower than the rated
(fast, full) speed of the processor.

Which was the original complaint that started this thread.

Not necessarily; it's chipset specific, and if the laptop has a newer
chipset than existed on the XP distribution disk .....
