a7a266 + benq Help!?!??!

ok well Im trying to figure out this problem

basically just got a benq 32x10x40 cdrw was like dirt cheap at a liquidation
sale (brand new never used) thing is the damn drive doesnt read original
cd's and cd's it burns it how ever reads cds I have burned on my old HP 4x
drive!

I have narrowed it down to hardware fault (which I doubt as cd drive reads
some cd's and writes fine)
xp not compatible which the drive says it is...!
and an asus - benq fault,,,,

just wondering if anyone else has had similar problems?!

If it doesn't read original, i.e. factory produced, cd's the drive is most
likely no good. The fact that it is brand new means nothing.
