Minimum System Requirements for DVD Burner
Hello, everyone!
I recently purchased an internal DVD burner (Philips DVDRW416K). As it was offered at a super-low price, I bought it even though the minimum system requirements specify a 500-MHz Pentium III CPU and I have only a 450-MHz Pentium III CPU. I have plenty of RAM (384 MB). I plan to use it only for archiving data. Do you think that I should take a chance and install it and see if it works, or do you recommend that I take it back in its sealed carton and ask for my money back? The salesman at the store could offer me no advice. I sent an email to Philips Technical Support but they never answered me. Buddha2 |

A higher-speed CPU will allow the system a bit more leeway in that you might be able to do web-browsing (as an example) while burning a disc. The slower-speed system might be susceptible to glitches if other tasks bite into the CPU's time. Playing music discs should be fine; playing a DVD *may*, depending upon the load on the CPU, be 'choppy'. The system RAM should help to mitigate some of these effects. If you can upgrade your video card it may also help. - -- Ron Cook n1zhi -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.2.2 (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQE/tseta9fyRcf4bIYRAhLYAKCLYt5CPU86IbADN2H5DEbzZaOrOQ Cfd4nO r3ZdZ8pBt/W1/JzB9Eki8Gw= =o78Q -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- |
