Newbie: FSB speed question
Hello,
I am thinking about buying a new desktop (DELL - they appear to be the best value - as far as I can tell). I have a question regarding FSB speed - some systems are rated at 533MHz & higher end systems are rated at 800MHz. But the highest rated RAM is at 400MHz. So I am confused as to what advantage the 800MHz FSB provides? Thanks in advance Joseph |

Ram is run at 400Mhz double pumped, 400 X 2 =800. So the ram does take
advantage of the 800Mhz bus. Actually I believe with Intel it is actually the ram is 20Mhz Quad pumped. ParanoiaBOTS |

The information was very helpful "Joseph" wrote in message . .. Hello, I am thinking about buying a new desktop (DELL - they appear to be the best value - as far as I can tell). The computer's front side bus actually runs at 200MHz, but the Intel CPU in
those systems is internally quad-pumped up to 800 MHz. So the 400 MHz RAM you describe is actually running at twice the bus speed, as it should. Go for it -- DaveW "Joseph" wrote in message . ..
