i would go with a 3-yr warranty optiplex 330 at around the same price or
less similar config.

Not much at that price. For what you want, I bet a lot of choices in
the outlet store for much less money. Likely any Core2duo's will work
for you so you can take your pick.

Have a look at the new Vostro 410--the case is bigger than the 400 series,
with more expansion possibilities and a real deal on the Nvidia 8800 GT.
