A basic fan connector question
I searched for a more appropriate newsgroup for this question but couldn't
find any so I hope it is appropriate for this forum. Please suggest an alternative if it isn't. I am building my first Intel-based PC and am having a spot of bother with the system fan. The case has a single fan at the rear with a cable attached and a 2-pin plug at the end of it. The fan connectors on the motherboard are all 4-pin. How do I connect the two of them together? I have tried putting the 2-pin plug on to pins 1-2, 2-3 and 3-4 of the motherboard connector but it doesn't work. I suspect the power probably comes from pins 1 and 3 or 1 and 4 and that the other pins are used for monitoring. Is this correct? Do I need to do a bit of soldering or altering of the cable and/or connectors? Thanks, Wes |

Probably worth your while buying a PWM fan which the mainboard will be able to control. -- Cheerz - Brownz http://www.brownz.org/ |
