nnngggg - maxtor - noooooo !

I would be looking at Hitachi or Samsung if it were my system.

To get really reliable then budget for an enterprise class sata drive.

Ironically, that is a Seagate designed and manufactured
drive with a Maxtor label. Haven't you kept up with the
state of affairs after Maxtor was bought by Seagate?

Not worthwhile. If OP is speaking of RAID0, reliability is
certainly not a priority. If OP is speaking of RAID1, we
can't expect a gain from enterprise class drives to matter
as enterprise class does not result in a more reliable
drive, pretty much an urban myth that they last longer.

RAID1 or 0?

The typical major name brands are reliable enough to run
RAID1. The budget is not enough to get a reasonable
performance boost with RAID0 enough to offset the risk of
data loss. If you were thinking of RAID0 with that budget,
I'd advise you to just get a single 500GB drive or a pair of
250GB and not raid them, instead dividing IO between
logically separate volumes.

IF you really want to RAID a couple drives that is not a bad
choice within the budget you listed.

Unless, like the ones referred to by the OP, they are Diamondmax 21 drives
(STM3250820AS). These are essentially re-badged Seagate Barracuda 7200.10
drives and represent very good value.

Ehh - why not Maxtor? He needs to test his RAID so a perfect solution!

Gonna go for the Maxtors 250GB S/ATA2 7200rpm 8MB Cache (STM3250820AS)

Pc used for gaming, video converting. so not too much bothered about data
loss, as I backup my game saves
and docs to an external HD regularly.

Just wondered about the reliability in general of these drives, compared to
others

So raid 0 the way to go for now, will there be much speed increase compared
to single drive?

Specs...

Intel Duo E8200 oc to 3.2 ghz
2GB Crucial
512mb Asus 8800 GT TOP
XP

Thanks for all the replys :-)

Where in the world do you get Samsung from? The Maxtor is a
Seagate, it is fairly common knowledge among those who kept
up with such things.
