Pentium 4 EE to Core 2 Duo
I have Dell XPS GEN 4 with a Pentium 4 EE and wish to upgrade the
processor. Is it possible to change to Core 2 Duo without upgrading the motherboard? Both CPUs are socket T(775 pins) and 266 MHz FSB. |

At the very least you'll probably need a BIOS update, it might not be possible at all depending on when your motherboard was built. |

Both CPUs are socket T(775 pins) and 266 MHz FSB. http://indigo.intel.com/compare_cpu/showchart.aspx?mmID=884351,884354,884352,884355&fa milyID=1&culture=en-US Lists processors with compatible chipsets. Even if your mainboard uses one of these chipsets it may well need a bios upgrade to install the latest mc updates to support c2d cpus. -- Cheerz - Brownz http://www.brownz.org/ Thank you for the info and link. CPU-Z provides that the current chip set is i925X Rev. B1 and Southbridge 82801FB(ICH6). If I'm reading the chart correctly it does not appear that the motherboard will support the Core 2 Duo. Is this correct? |

Is this correct? Correct, as mentioned by DaveW, 925 will not support core2duo. Only the chipsets listed on that page will work. -- Cheerz - Brownz http://www.brownz.org/ |
