Default micro-atx MB on atx case

i just wanted to know if its possible to set a micro-atx motherboard on a
ATX Case? I think so, but i'm not sure... great thanx

I did once, and the tray had holes for three different size boards.
Wait-- on or in?!

Yes. It just has fewer slots and so doesn't extend all the way down.

Technically, 'mATX' is also shorter in the front to rear dimension but many
mobos listed as 'ATX' are just as short in that dimension too. The spec is
actually an 'up to' dimension: 'up to x inches' for an 'ATX' ('full size')
and 'up to y inches' for an mATX. Both can be 'smaller' than the maximum.

A proper ATX case should have the standard hole patterns that would
accommodate the variations.

So, the point is, being shorter in both dimensions than a 'full size' ATX
should not be a problem. And, true to form, it wasn't for the mATX mobos
I've put in 'full size' ATX cases.
