Overclocking Intel D850GB
Hey, I'm new to this whole thing, but sounds interesting. I'm aware of the
dangers of overheating, but my neighbour told be that he thought the cooling was adequate enough. My system consists of: An Intel D850GB Motherboard Intel 1.4Ghz Processor Three 80mm fans (and one for power supply and processor.... I might add that the processor fan is the one that Intel shipped with their boxed processor) An ATI Radeon 9600XT Video card Please give me some recommendations on overclocking my FSB, Processor, or Video card. Or for that matter, if my cooling will make the cut. I might add that I currently have the side off the computer, and my basement is cold. Intel Active Monitor says that the Processor is at 25 Degrees Celsius (77F) And the other regions of my board top out at 32 Celsius (90F) Please let me know your ideas and opinions, Thanks |

I forgot to mention that I have 256Mb of PC800 Rambus Ram

Intel made no options for that... MAYBE with some 'softFSB' program, you'd have to locate the PLL chip on your board for that. But chances are not that good.. You can of course overclock the vid card, but with such a slow processor, thats hardly worth the effort... Thomas |

Please give me some recommendations on overclocking my FSB, Processor, or
Video card. Processor is locked, and Intel boards have fixed FSB settings; cannot be overclocked. The Willamette P4 1.4 is a slug, PIII (non Celeron)Tualatins routinely outperform it. Intel boards are noted for stability, but that's about it. You need to be looking at upgrading for a performance increase. |

Ok, so any recommendations on what to do next? I mean I certainly have been
looking at upgrading for a while. Intel or AMD? Im leaning towards AMD but I dont know.... "Ziferten" wrote in message ... Hey, I'm new to this whole thing, but sounds interesting. Depends on what you do with your computer, and whether absolute best
performance is what you are after or absolute best performance increase through overclocking is more important. Intel CPU's are virtually immune from destruction by overheating. AMD CPU's and motherboards are somewhat less expensive. Intel CPU's have more total overclocking potential. Some AMD CPU's have unlocked multipliers and thus offer two ways to raise the CPU clock frequency (change the multiplier or change the FrontSide Bus frequency.) Either way overclocking will be relatively expensive for you since you will need a new CPU, motherboard, and memory (RDRAM motherboards being hard to find, and PC800 being slow by today's standards. I do happen to have a Pentium 4 1.6A and 640 Mbytes of PC800 memory on an aBit motherboard that runs quite happily at 2.4 GHz, but trying for more performance out of that particular system would not be cost effective. -- Phil Weldon, pweldonatmindjumpdotcom For communication, replace "at" with the 'at sign' replace "mindjump" with "mindspring." replace "dot" with "." Please let me know your ideas and opinions,
Thanks My recommendation: AMD Barton 2500 and Nforce2 Dual Channel m/b (I use the Soltek SL-75FRN2)with 2 x 512 PC3200. Decent cooler (I use Vantech Aeroflow). This setup will easily overclock with 100% stability to XP3200 level and beyond (2200Mhz). The Barton 2500 Mobile is popular due to it's unlocked multiplier. I run just a regular Barton 2500 at 200FSB. This will give you great performance and is cheap too. A similar level of performance Intel powered performance costs almost double. You should be able to do all of this for less than $300. |

Does anyone know about the DFI LanParty NFII Ultra B Board? It has lots of
features that I'd like, and sounds good, having the nVidia nForce 2 Ultra 400 Chipset. The Award BIOS is presumably tweakable. Is the Multiplier locked on the Athlon XP 2800 Barton?
