G400 and XP
Hi,
I upgraded my system to XP and it keeps on crashing due to G400 driver. I tried latest certified drivers (5.91, 5.86) but problem remain same. Even XP supplied driver (5.1) crashes. I been using G400 with Windows 2000 from long time and never had any problem. My System is: Epox 8RDA+ with Athon XP Matrox G400 I searched newgroup and can see that many other are also facing same problem without any concrete resoulution. I am suprised to see that Matrox support is of absolutely no help (see Matrox forum). Any inputs? Regards, Yusuf |

Try removing and reseating the video card making sure firmly and evenly seated in the AGP slot. If this checks out and there's no improvement, I'd start looking elsewhere. Why do you blame the G400 for the instability? |

I do not think it is a problem with AGP slot or with card as card is
running fine with Win2K and Linux. XP also runs stable when Matrox G400 driver are removed (off course in low resolution mode). All problem starts when installing Matrox driver. I'm also using XP and G400 Max with the drivers that came with XP.
Everything works great, so haven't bothered with drivers from Matrox site yet. Why do you blame the G400 for the instability? I had the problem with a g400 max and w2k. Whenever I started the computer, it would get to the desktop and the mouse pointer would freeze. I'm not sure how I solved it, but I think I found an older g400 driver for it and that did the trick. I think the problem might be specific to the individual's motherboard as I have a g400 max installed on another machine running W2k without a problem. |
