3.7 - 3.10 and the %PATH%

I've noticed that installing the AIW software appears to randomly
add a line to my autoexec.bat file in win98.

Basically saying this.
path %Path%;C:\Program Files\ATI Technologies\ATI Control Panel

I understand environment variables, meaning, use and all that.
But what I don't understand is why. I was thinking it must be
something the install failed to remove.

Anyone know why/if the control panel folder should be in the %path% ???

It's been a long time since I messed with autoexec.bat files, but I'm sure
there is a reason. Why not ask ATI tech support? And is this additional
path statement causing any problems?? If not, leave well enough alone. In
themselves path statements make no hit on performance and use little
environment space.

Yes, it can cause problems when you already have a path statement and
the ATI drivers add a second one. Lot's of newer users to the PC won't
know how to fix the error message you will get on boot up.

What it does then is appends ATI's directory to the end of any existing path.
(path %Path%;C:\Program Files\ATI Technologies\ATI Control Panel)


It's more of a curiosity question though because it seems be there randomly.
Like every other driver update. Not sure there but 3.9 added it and it's not
there now with 3.10.

If you are not happy with this, why dont you try a driver reinstall? First
removing the drivers and then running Driver Cleaner 2 before install..
I ran this utility yesterday. I could not believe how much it found.. Follow
the readme to the letter..
