I'll start by advising a "wait and see" posture.
Roxio doesn't have the best track record when it comes to trouble-free,
reliable software. Go to
http://groups.google.com and do a few searches on
"Roxio", "Roxio problems", etc. and you'll begin to get a picture.

I know about Roxio's issues...That's why I am asking. I am told this one is
a much better effort. There is nothing on their site about it. Anyone know
when it will be available ?

Wonder if it comes with Ginsu knives:

=========================================
Free Ginsu Knives w/ Easy Coaster Creator
=========================================

=====================
From: (Don)
Subject: EZCD 4.0
Date: 12/22/99

I have 3.5c. I can get 4.0 from a friend. Is there any reason for me
to install 4.0?

Of course! If your friend is not appreciative of Creator 4 and will
give or sell it to you, by all means, take him up on it. It is, after
all, the most troublefree and usefull cdr software that has been
written in the history of cd recording. Even professionals use it.
Rocket scientists are raving over it. Only those that are too stupid
to appreciate the advanced features are complaining.

First off: It is the most thoroughly tested cdr software on the
planet. Adaptec uses the Beta testing proceedure to completely
eliminate any bugs that have crept through the alpha stage. To this
end, they utilize the brainpower of real Rocket Scientists in the Beta
test stage. All bugs are of course reported and fixed before the final
release of the software, so you are assured of getting the best
product available. In short, if this software malfunctions on your
system, you need to investigate and fix your system, bubba!

Now, lets talk about the features: Whether you just want to backup
your system, or maybe work with mp3s or record any number of formats,
this software gives you the ultimate in control and precision. Other
programs just cant compete with the creator. You get complete control
of your recordings!

You get Spin Doctor, the award winning audio "do it all" program. Many
have dumped such programs as Cool-Edit, Dart, Sound-Forge, and many
others. These outdated programs just cannot compete with the Spin
Doctor. If you are into audio, then spin doctor is the dog's balls!
You cant live without it!

You get Jewel Case creator! This is the latest and most fantastic of
all the complements of Creator! All the competition is back at the
drawing board to improve their labeling software. They will never
catch up, however, for this software is way ahead of its time. Once
you use this, you will NEVER go back to any other cover editor of any
sort!

You get Take Two! The revolutionary backup program. It has surpassed
all the old favorites such as Ghost and Drive image. (These poor guys
are crying in their beers!) In its short history, Take Two has
supplanted these in terms of reliability! There has never been a
documented case of failure to restore properly from a Take Two backup!
It has been thourougly tested by rocket scientists who are familiar
with scientific theory and know just how to test things to their
ultimate potential!

The entire core of Creator was done in a top down programming manner,
and quality control was foremost in the thoughts of the designers. I
heartily recommend that you use the Creator, and throw out all that
old antiquated software that just isnt worth using any more!

Plus, if you order immediately, from adaptec, you will get a set of
Ginsu steak knives, and a hand carved holder to put them in.

The first 100 orders will also get a free set of drink coasters, and
this is a real bonus; you will need these, as the creator will not make
coasters.

Don Sterner wrote this when Ver. 4 came out:

=======================
From: Don Sterner
Date: (8/31/99)

So now the REAL beta test begins. If

past experience is any example, several significant problems will
be discovered within the first few weeks. Some will be problems
that couldn't possibly have endured a valid beta without
detection. Eventually, (6-8+ months later), Adaptec will release
an update which will only partially correct the problems and will
add new ones in their place. Finally, a marginally-useable
product will result 1.5 to 2 years down the road - just like with
V3.

We've been here before.
=======================

And Ver. 4 went thru exactly the scenario he described.
And Ver. 5 went thru exactly the same scenario he described.
And Ver. 6 went thru exactly the same scenario till now.

And Ver. 7 will go thru exactly the same scenario.

If you do get it, don't be careless and thoughtless:

Mike Richter (cRoxio Shill) wrote (12/14/03):

I have received an email from Roxio advising me to download an update
for my Roxio Platinum. Would you advise me to do this.

if you are going to update such software, have a complete
system backup first so you can restore to your current conditions even
if the update fails.

Is a backup essential now even for an update of Easy CD Cremator?

======================
From: Mike Richter (cRoxio Shill)
Subject: Why uninstall EZCD 5???
Date: 5/5/01

I consider an image backup essential
before any major software installation

I suspect that those who have trouble are also careless
- perhaps thoughtless - about their use of their computer systems.

Why any competent computer user would fail to 'buy'
such inexpensive insurance is beyond me.

====================
From: "WayneC"
Date: 5/5/01

Yes Mike, I agree, Roxio should post a very BIG warning: Do not
attempt to install ECDC 5 until you have made a full system backup,
removed the backup media and stored it at least 100 yards away from
any ECDC 5 component including the box it came in.

==========================
From: Thomas A. Horsley
Date: 5/6/01

Yes, I imagine that's a habit folks who install Adaptec software
develop quite early in the learning curve

======================
From: "Fishface"
Date: 11/7/02

Is that a representative of Roxio justifying software which
doesn't properly uninstall? Is it so difficult for them to do
that an attempt is made to defend their inability?

Backup? Hell, I'm considering installing it alone on a separate
installation on a separate partition on someone elses computer.

I just ran Wintop and started SoundStream and Wintop is showing that it

Thanks for trying this! I really appreciate it. I had wondered if it
was somehow a fault with my particular setup (have no other problems
with any programs, but this one is a dog). I hope that a Roxio
representative will see this message and respond to it... this is a bug
that I was hoping would be fixed so I could reinstall 5 since I did pay
full price for it - but my main usage is Spin Doctor, and this CPU
hogging causes my precision "starts and stops" to be imprecise enough
(because the mouse clicks are interpreted too slowly) to render it
useless for my purposes. Of course Roxio never responded to the case
#1021719 entered long ago so this may be as difficult as the 4.0 to 4.01
(or whatever it was) patch that fixed the 0.9 DAE (and so many other)
bugs. It did affect my setup a little worse, my CPU usage attributed to
Spindoctor was right around 94%. Bad news for the running edits, and
made my machine behave like a 386-16.

Again, thanks for measuring the impact of these two components run
together.... Roxio? Hello?
