Default Dell SupportAssist - What is it for?

Recently Dell Support Assist was installed on my system - and it runs all the
time. Anyone else have this and know what it is for and can it be safely
uninstalled. It seems to be maybe sending some info to Dell.

I'm running Win7 64bit and I went to Services.msc and disabled it, but when the
system restarts, it is back there running again, but still says "disabled" in
Services.

Any input really appreciated.

You can uninstall it with no harm to yourself and the computer... Ben Myers
