Interpreting Nero CD-DVD Speed results?
I've looked high and low and can find only spotty information about
the meaning of Nero CD-DVD Speed disc quality test results. Even the manual doesn't say a single word about interpretation of PI Errors, PI Failures and Quality Score for DVDs. It doesn't mention what settings should be used for testing. Should speed be at 1x, 4x or maximum? From what I can gather, it appears that a PI Error level greater than 280 or a PI Failure level more than 32 would be unacceptable. But somebody mentioned ignoring the rare high spike. Has anybody found anything that goes into this free program in detail? No testing program, no matter how good, is better than its supporting information. I'm currently using CD-DVD Speed v. 3.61. TIA for any help. Larc §§§ - Change planet to earth to reply by email - §§§ |

http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=80545 280 PI and 4 PIF are the maximum spec for 1x scanning with 8 ECC sum for PI and 1 ECC sum for PIF. Only LiteOn burners can give you those ECC sums. CDSpeed will display the average ECC sum for the drive in use. The real purpose for error scanning is not to pass some sort of judgment or measurement of a disc, but to compare disc A with disc B and see which is better. Lower is better. So use it to find the best combination of media and burn speed for YOUR burner. Worry less about the actual values, and concentrate on what gets you the lowest values. Scan at 4x for the best balance of time and error rates, but 1x is the "spec" speed for scanning. Occasionally you will find a disc that scans better at 8x than at 4x, but that's rare. It's best to always scan at the same speed, what ever you choose.
