How change font size on an HP 3820 deskjet?

I recently purchased an HP Deskjet 3820 to replace an old dot-matrix
printer; I also purchased the HP PCL [5] Technical Reference Manual
(CD-ROM), and I have also downloaded an HP PCL 3 document (which HP
Tech Support says is the proper version of PCL for the 3820).

In general, I am quite satisfied, especially once I got the printer
connected to BOTH my DOS and my Windows machines, where the first to
issue a print command gets the printer!

I've succeeded in sending some of the PCL-command escape sequences to the
printer from DOS, but I have NOT YET succeeded in getting it to change
(scale?) font size. I'm sure I'm just leaving something out (for example,
color printing requires -- but is not really mentioned in the PCL document
-- that the "set 4 raster planes per row with KCMY pallette" command be
issued BEFORE any particular color command is issued.

If someone has actually changed font size using escape sequences (from
DOS or BASIC or C or ....), I'd sure appreciate some help.
