Default GA 7N400 Pro2 - Onboard LAN and Eudora

The 7N400 Pro2 has the Realtek8110 gigabit ethernet onboard NIC.
I have no problem connecting to the net with Netscape or IE, I
can receive mail in both Netscape and Eudora (default e-mail)
but I can not send e-mail in either one. Each time I get a
"network connection timeout, code 10053".
Have e-mailed realtek and gigabyte. Gigabyte knows of no problems
and realtek can not help.
Any one have the same problem or solution? I remember reading a
article where some students with this gigabit NIC were having the
same problems and that the University came out with a fix but alas
I could not find it.

Any help/comments appreciated

Hmmmm,

Mine is in a small network with multiple operating systems, plus print
servers and other miscellaneous hardware, no problems at all. I did download
updated drivers, but used the old ones while I was doing it. I am using a
DSL-504 modem router and an old 10base-T hub at the centre of the net. I did
not have to do anything special. I did allow the system to reboot frequently
during the driver install phase.

After fighting the onboard LAN on my Ga-7vax for months, I reinstalled a
Netgear card and upgraded to Win2k from 98SE. The Netgear card caused an
IRQ problem on 98 that would cause a hard lock up. Works great in 2k now.

The onboard LAN is a Realtek 8139, and the onboard version of that is famous
for going to sleep and not being wakeable. (GA7VAXP mainboard). There is a
fix, which I downloaded, but by then, I'd given up and like you, installed a
PCI network card. Paradoxically, it is also Realtek 8139, but works fine!
The fix file is 34k and has the name winxp-8139(505).zip I'm sure I got it
from Realtek's website.

I've used the onboard LAN on 7N400 Pro and Pro2 boards, and they seem to
work fine for me - but there's also a chance I suppose that they could be
afflicted with a similar problem, and have a similar fix.

Best of luck.

Eddie

Actually, the on board LAN chip is the 1 GHz version - RTL8169. Bug free
here.

Thanx to all that answered. Since Gigabyte and Realtek don't have the
answer, I too went to a 10/100 PCI NIC, which of course solved the
problem.
I guess my gripe is buying a MB with all the bells and whistles only
to find out that not all parts work and nobody on the manuafacturing
end cares :=(
