Adjusting screen size with component out.
I have been playing around with a Sapphire X1650pro and a Gigabyte
7600GS using the component out on a 27" TV for my arcade cabinet. After lots of help from this group, I got my Sapphire card working pretty well. I then un-installed it and installed the 7600GS and set it up after many hours. Well I was very dissapointed in the TV out quality compared to the Radeon card. The Nvidia just looked dull, the colors were all washed out. I tried setting it up with all types of settings, and nothing looked good. And the text was not very sharp either. So I am 100% usng a Radeon card. It's quality is so much better on a TV using component out than the Nvidia card. The colors are so bright and the text is very readible, even the tiny text in some of the PC games look good. Couple things I wanted to try and figure out with the X1650 pro that I am struggling with. 1. The screen size is just a tad to large. It is cutting off on all 4 sides. Though when I start a game like Tiger Woods 2007, it seems to re-adjust itself and the game looks perfect. But when going back into windows, or running my emulator, the image is cut off. I am using the latest Catalyst 7.1, and since I am using the component out, there are no TV settings that allow me to adjust the screen size or postion. Any ideas on what to do? 2. I have a pair of Act-Labs light guns that are designed to be used with a TV and the S-Video output. The way they work is that each gun first plugs into the S-video output, then the S-video cable to the TV plugs in last (they are all stacked on top of each other). Now that I am using component out, I can't run the guns in front of the TV signal anymore. I was thinking of maybe building a custom box that took the 4 pins I need, ran them through the guns, then send them back to the s- video to component out cable. I would leave the other 3 pins going straight through. I'll build one and test it out. 3. It would be great to get the POST to display while using component out. I know it can be done since I've seen it work by using a mix match of hardware (7600GS adapter box). But I just haven't been able to get it to work once the drivers are loaded with this other adapter box. I've been told that this is just how the Radeon cards work, but mabye there is a tweak or something I can do. Anyway, if I could get these things worked out, this would be the perfect video card of all time. The quality is great, and I know Radeon is very reliable. It's just my custom preferences that would make it perfect for my application. Thanks again for everyones help in this newsgroup. |

Adjusting screen size with component out.
One more thing.
There is also some minor flickering on the screen. With the Nvidia card there was an adjustment that worked great. It eliminated all the flicker. Anything like that for the Radeon cards using component out. Thanks. |

Adjusting screen size with component out.
And again, one more thing on the flicker.
I noticed that when I had both my VGA and TV hooked up, the TV was flickering. I then went to my display manager and told it to swap my inputs, so the TV was the primary and the VGA was the secondary. As soon as it swapped. The flicker was gone!!! The image looked perfectly stable. So I thought all was fixed. Then I disconnected my VGA, moved the cabinet back into its corner and rebooted the machine. The flicker was now back??? So I re-connected my VGA, went into the catalyst software and once again told it to swap the display this time it set my VGA as primary, and TV as secondary. As soon as it swapped, the flicker was completely gone again!!. But as you can guess as soon as I rebooted the machine, the flicker was back. Very interesting I thought. I'll play around with the driver. I am pretty sure I loaded the latest off the website but I'll try it again. |

Adjusting screen size with component out.
I wish I could just edit my posts. But I wanted to update on the
flicker thing. I was using the latest driver 8.33.00. This caused the screen to flicker badly. I un-installed all the drivers, then loaded the driver that came on the CD. It was version 8.282.0.0. With this older driver, the flicker is completely gone. No matter how many times I reboot it does not flicker anymore. |
