Default ITE Raid (Giga Raid) and Windows Update

For those that havent been nailed by this yet, I offer some caution.

I have a 7n400 with the Gigaraid controller. While using the gigabyte
drivers for 2000, I ran windows update. I saw that there was a new drive for
the ITE ... so I downloaded it.

Well ... its the drive for the regular IDE controller from ITE, not the Raid
controller. It all but hosed my system. It was DOOOOOOG slow. Took me a
little while to determinet that it was the windows update drive. I went to
the IDE website and installed the new driver. Even had to specifically
assign it to the controller before it would work.

So ... just so you know, dont let windows update feed you any driver
updates. Get those from the device MFG's and you wont be sorry.

ciao,

- NuTs

DO NOT USE THE DRIVERS FROM THE ITE SITE AS THEY HAVE TO MATCH THE BIOS
VERSION.

NEVER install any Hardware Drivers from Windows Update, unless You like Pain & Abuse! I
have tried twice (had a severe case of rectal/cranium insertion the second time!) Go
to the HW's site and use theirs. This is especially true of ATI video & of course anything related to Your BIOS

WU doesnt do bios updates. But, I havent had any issues eith updated HP or
Intel NIC drivers ... those actually work.

BTW, I am using the ITE 2000 driver (latest one) and it works great.
