Reducing Stiffness of the Lid Hinges on an Acer Aspire 3023

Hi All,

I've got an Acer Aspire 3023WLMi which has just had the screen &
lid replaced after the original lid cracked near the hinges due to
the amount of resistance when opening and closing the laptop. If I'd
known that this is a typical problem with this model and that support
is patchy and slow, I would probably have steered clear of an Acer.
But otherwise, I do like the laptop.

[1] Anyway, I obviously don't want the lid to split again (and it's
now out of warranty), so I just wondered if anyone knows if it is
possible to slacken a couple of screws or make some other adjustment
to make the lid movement easier? Or might some careful silicon
lubricant in the right place also do the job? (Incidentally, I've
built and repaired desktop PCs for years, so I am
"hands-on" & technical).

[2] Also, when Acer returned the laptop (after 3 weeks!) it had 1 of
its 4 rubber foot pads missing (thanks) and they now want me to
return it so they can stick one back on!! No thanks! I can't wait
another 3 weeks for something I could just stick on myself. So I
just wondered if anyone knows of anywhere I could order the thin,
inch-long sticky rubber foot from? Or one near enough like it that I
could craft into shape?
