Initial setup suggestions....
"The OTHER Kevin in San Diego"...
A few weeks ago I bought a bunch of new goodies to upgrade my game machine. I've finally got a couple days off work so I'm going to bolt in the new goodies andw as wondering if someone running similar hardware might give me a good starting point as far as BIOS settings (specifically memory timings) go... Uh, sorry to pee on your fire a bit but you've but if your intention was to overclock you've not really bought the ideal memory, should have got quality PC3700 at the very least, ideally PC4000. Your processor is likely to be able to run in excess of 230MHz FSB, and while I gather that Crucial stuff has pretty good headroom, it's doubtful that you'll be able to keep it synchronous at those sorts of speeds. If you have the option, your most sensible move is to swap this memory for some quality PC4000 before you start playing. If you're stuck with the PC3200, your only real option is to start at default speeds and slowly rack the FSB up, using something like Memtest86 to check the memory integrity as you go. As a general point it's impossible for us to tell you what memory timings will work out optimal. If you keep the processor at stock speeds, just follow Crucial's timing recommendations (2/3/3/6?). However, what you'll get if you overclock the CPU you can only find out by testing. -- Richard Hopkins Cardiff, Wales, United Kingdom (replace .nospam with .com in reply address) The UK's leading technology reseller www.dabs.com Get the most out of your digital photos www.dabsxpose.com |
