Help! Cannot find a VESA driver...
I am trying to run a game in DOS at the MSDOS prompt. When you type
the execution command the programme fails to start with the following message appearing: "No VESA driver found" How can this problem be rsolved and exactly what is a VESA driver? Thanks! |

Thanks! 'VESA', as I recall, is an acronym for 'Video Electronics Standard Association'. Are you running under Windows 95/98/ME or are you running under XP, 2000, or NT ? The 'NT-based' systems (2000, XP, NT) do not allow direct access to hardware by user processes. If you are using one of the DOS-based systems (95/98, ME) you might have to change your video card. It sounds as though the game software is trying to access a DOS-based video card driver directly. A common attribute of DOS-based games and software was the direct access to the PC hardware, often including direct access to the hard disk and other devices. win2K and the other NT-based systems require all driver and program access to be mediated through the operating system. - -- Ron n1zhi -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.2.2 (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQFA2MOEa9fyRcf4bIYRAtGeAKCg37/ZGd+ulQnxqeo4EQ2jB6sZRwCbBC7R qQxpG5GDAQIH/e+9cRZgQ2k= =l6WF -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- |

Thanks! Most new graphics cards have the vesa extension's in the BIOS. You might try this driver on this web page http://www.elys.com/software/vesa/ or follow the link to Scitech what game are you trying to run and what graphics card do you have? |

Its probably a case of having to upgrade your graphics card. If this is the case you could try: http://www.epinx.com/Components_and_...raphics_Cards/ |
