Fan Dilemma
I have an Antec Lanboy case which has a "3-pin fan signal connector"
coming from the PSU which is to be connected to the front panel fan post on my Intel D845PEBT2 motherboard. . . .My question is, what if I have a front panel fan???. . . I thought it's best to have the front fan as an intake, and a rear case fan as an exhaust. . . but this connector coming from the PSU has me confused. . .thanks, Keith ps. . this is my first try at computer building . |

Really? the mobo's pin says it's specifically for a "Front panel Fan?" It doesn't matter, it's only a label, you connect whatever you want to it and the fan will work the same way. -bobb |

It *sounds* to me like the PSU connection is for RPM monitoring of the PSU fans which the Truepower series has (is this the PSU in that case?). You don't have to hook this up at all, as the thermal sensor in the PSU itself will be regulating fan speed, this just lets you monitor it. You can connect your front case fan to that motherboard header. Alternatively, you can connect the PSU to the motherboard header and use a 3-4 pin adapter to connect the front case fan directly to a power connector, but then you don't get rpm monitoring with it. I'm thinking that pin may have something to do with the temp sensor. Well, newbie can always RTFM and be done with it. 3 pins is standard for Positive, Negative, and RPM readout. -bobb |

I have done, and responded. -bobb -- Are you registered as a bone marrow donor? You regenerate what you donate. You are offered the chance to donate only if you match a person on the recipient list. 4 fan connector leads. . .3 fan headers on the mb. . . .RTFP Keith, read my post. You have 3 fans, right? Front, Back, and CPU? Plug them all into their appropriate motherboard headers and leave the PSU plug off. Look at the fan plug from the PSU. It has only two wires, right? It's for RPM monitoring only. It is not necessary for the PSU to run, all it does is report in how fast the PSU is running its fans. You have no option to throttle up as the PSU controls the fan speed. If you want to monitor the fan speed of the PSU fan, then connect that one up to a motherboard header and use a 3 to 4 pin connector to hook the remaining case fan up to the power supply via a 4 pin molex connector, the kind used to connect to IDE drives.
