Using Data Files Burned To A CD

I went to "My Computer" (I'm using Windows XP), and accessed the
program I burned to the CD. I opened it, and hit "Select All", from
the Edit menu. I then went to "Move To Folder" again, from the Edit
menu, and attempted to move the files to a new folder on my hard
drive. I got an error message saying that "Access (was) Denied". Make
sure that the disc is not full or write-protected, and that the file
is not in use." Prior to doing this, I attempted to change the
properties of ALL the files that were on the burned CD from "read
only" but was not permitted by Windows. What am I doing wrong?

1. You can't *MOVE* files from a CD, only copy them

2. You can't change the attributes of a file or files on a CD. You can
do so when they are copied to your hard drive.

The reasons for both of the above are the same...you can't change what
is on a CD.

As has been pointed out, you need to use the 'copy' command to move
files you have saved from a cd to the hard drive on your machine. You
can't alter the files on a cd because they are read only, those
attributes are not changeable until the files have been transferred
onto your hard drive. It's just one of those things you get used to
after a while

Okay. I selected all the files I wanted to copy to my hard drive. I
used the "edit" menu to copy the selected files to a new folder on my
hard drive. I got the following error message: Can not copy file (x).
Cannot read from the source file or disc. I'm running Widows XP with
Service Pack 1. Any solutions?

What kind of file is file X? What is the extension?

What I did was put three installed games from hard drive of an older
computer onto the CD. I'm pretty sure that the games will have to be
installed from their CD due to registry issues (I could be wrong about
this), but I'd really like to be able to get the the downloaded
scenarios from the 'Net that were in the game directory, and now in
that same place on the burned CD. Their extension is .SCE (scenario)

I asked hoping it was something you might be able to open from the CD
(since Explorer couldn't copy it) to see if it was readable in another
way. Not too likely you have a program to do so easily though.

When you were trying to copy, were you trying to copy all files at once
or one at a time? If the former, try one at a time and see if you can
copy any of them. If you can and Windows stalls on one then that
particular file (or files) is bad on the CD and needs to be written to
another CD. If Windows cannot read and copy *any* files then I would
suspect that something is wrong with your burning procedure.
