New nvidia driver, no dvd !?
I,m running windows XP with nvidia geforce 3 ti-200 and installed latest
53.03 drivers, (love the newer resolutions). Problem is my Dvd stopped showing a picture. It plays audio cd,s and cd roms but no picture on dvd. I,m running Power dvd to play the dvd,s. Do I need to get another dvd driver? (I lowered the color rez. also the screen rez. and mhz, to no avail.) thanks for any help!!! |

The TV out chips on many older cards were not Macrovision compliant and as such, all driver sets since the 41.09 set have stringent checks in them now. Basically you need to go back to a driver set earlier than this to play DVDs. |

I think it was only a certain driver set(s) that had the DVD problem. |

I think it was only a certain driver set(s) that had the DVD problem. If you dig this group, there are post showing wich bios won't have that problem with any drivers. I belive the .20 bios is the faulty one when used with a conexant non macrovision compliant tv out, and will cause lockups with most 4x.xx drivers, being 44.04's the later that can even boot windows, thus as far as I remember, the .19 will boot up windows with any drivers. I belive there is also a bios around (.25 ?) made specifically to correct this tv ot problem. But with any set of drivers you can play dvds using either dvd region free or anydvd to disable macrovision (having multizone and operation free for dvds as a bonus). |

If you are, try uninstalling and re-installing. No problem on my rig:- PowerDVD XP ( with patch 2417) FX5900 Windows XP ( pro) Driver 53.03 John Lewis |

Well known and documented thing nVidia was foced to do. The TV out
chips on many older cards were not Macrovision compliant and as such, This has been stated many times, but who "forced" NVidia to make such a move as to disable DVD playback even when the tv out is turned off? I don't think playing a DVD with a non-macrovision compliant encoder is illegal, so it wasn't the law coming after NVidia. |
