Dunno, cant see why that would give the symptoms
seen, a failure of XP to boot. The most it should do
is fail to clone the HPA to the new drive instead.


HPA (when enabled) changes hd geometry seen by laptop OS.

Sure, but that shouldnt produce the symptoms seen
because the XP boot doesnt care about geometry
in the sense of just stalling with nothing on the screen.

A clone of the boot drive works fine when the
new drive has different geometry to the original.
