NeroVision Express with the DVD plugins will do what you need. There is a

Also Nero Recode lets you take different file formats and re encode them to

These are part of the "Power Pack"

Having just bought a dvd writer, I've tried out nerovision express,
only to find a bug whereby it abandons processing of certain mpeg
files and fails to write to the disk. Ahead haven't been helpful in
resolving it -- so I've been looking at dvdlab, which is looks more
flexible for dvd design, although doesn't have "ordinary" cd-writing
and audio editing facilities.

Depending on the source og the mpeg file, PVAstrumento may help (and it's
free):

Thanks for that. I've used it to scan the files (produced by
editstudio), and it found no problems with them, so presumably the
problem lies within nero (iirc an exception of some sort). As the
nero demo has now expired, and still no help from Ahead, I think I'll
move on to something else, although having to buy a separate CD
writing/audio suite is a bit of a pain :-(.

Check out the actual encoding format used by the files.

There`s a nice util called Gspot that will tell you exactly which codecs
were used by a particular movie file.

You may well find its in xvid format - this is an open source format that
can be a little troublesome to play or covert, as the codec used may not
be the one you found and installed :-} (perils of open source)

Thanks for the comment. As I've replied to another comment, I tried
PVAstrumento, which indicated the mpeg file was fine. Gspot is happy
with the file as well. It was originally produced by editstudio, and
plays ok and dvdlab was ok with it. When I said "abandons", perhaps I
should have said "crashes" - nero's log showed an exception of some
sort, which had been caught. I'm puzzled by Ahead's lack of interest -
I hope they don't really expect people to try the demo, find it's
faulty, and then buy the product anyway :-)

Easier to d/l the demo and acquire the serial number g.

Ahead support was so pathetic when I needed support' that I have put
my (paid for) serial number on many P2P networks.

BTW, there are many free burning software suites. One actually beat
many of the commercial offerings.

Cheers,

Guy

You wouldn't like to recommend, I suppose..... ? One nice thing
about nero was the audio editor included - I'm not sure there are
freebies around to match?

There's always freebies to match and exceed commercial software. It
takes some hunting down though.

You will find the award winning free CD burning software here

You do know Ahead tracks it and it will trace back to you?

I doubt it and don't care. I told them I'd do it if they didn't sort
out my problem. I also have a utility that d/l IP lists and blocks the
IP ranges that the RIAA etc use.

Guy
