Other attributes look good, even after 64880 hours (7+ years) uptime :-) Many recent drives return threshold 0 for Power_On_Hours and all other usage ("Old_age") attributes which means that these would never "fail". "Failed SMART usage Attribute: 9 Power_On_Hours."?

put finger to keyboard and composed: Other attributes look good, even after 64880 hours (7+ years) uptime :-) My Fujitsu 20GB HDD exceeded its POH threshold long ago. It still has no reallocated or pending sectors. - Franc Zabkar -- Please remove one 'i' from my address when replying by email. |

Hi. Is this error something to worry about quickly (will have to buy a new HDD if it is urgent. but they are expensive due to Thailand's flood )? I don't know what the flood in Thailand did ...but I just checked NewEgg and you can get a new hard drive for about 100USD or so. I'd consider replacing it...but I don't think you have to rush. OTOH: As long as all your data are backed up and you keep it backed up. no need to worry |

I'd consider replacing it...but I don't think you have to rush. It is usually the belief that prices will rise and the rush to buy that pushes the price up, not the actual shortage. This happened with rice prices in 2008. http://www.npr.ORG/blogs/thesalt/2011/11/02/141771712/how-fear-drove-world-rice-markets-insane |

Yes, but those same hard drives you see for $100 were just $59 weeks ago. I'd consider replacing it...but I don't think you have to rush. Can you blame the multinational corporations for gouging consumers on the artificially inflated prices when they have management bonuses and stockholder dividends to pay? Remember, it is not the material and manufacturing costs which affect so much the final price, but what the market will bear -- ie what walk-in traffic will pay for convenience because they "want it now". |
