New Gateway Need Help
I just bought the GT5082 Dual core processor Media Center Desktop,
yesterday, I haven't set it up yet. 1. Only 1 Recovery Cd was included and a Getting started brochure, no cds for software, no manuals , is this normal? I'm used to Dell and HP they always include all of the above. I checked Gateway support , documents, they don't even list this Model yet. I think it came out in May 06. 2. The hard drive is 250 G I want to partition the drive , I understand that with Ntsc I can only add 3 more partitions. What's the best program to use ? I have Partition Magic and several others. Thanks for any help. Joe |

Sorry, can't help with the partition question (haven't had to perform that procedure except on a new drive). Tom |

New Gateway Need Help
Joe;
I do not know what CDs or documentation are now being shipped with current Gateway computers. Check your invoice. In the past everything included, including each piece of paper was listed. As for the drive, do you mean NTFS? I am not sure of any limit, but I an sure it is far greater than 3. If Partition Magic is the latest, it can handle the job. As for the others, check for Windows XP compatibility at the manufacturers website. I would do the partition job now while the computer is new. While most partition tools are reliable and rarely have problems, if something goes wrong, it is often catastrophic and causes total data loss. -- Jupiter Jones http://www3.telus.net/dandemar http://www.dts-l.org "js" wrote in message ... New Gateway Need Help
Thanks guys for your help. I set up the computer but have problems.
1 When the computer starts it shows a lot of info in black and white then tells me to press F22 to restore from Cd/Dvd then it starts regular windows. 2 Under My Computer properties, it says I'm running Media Center 2002 with sp2. I'm supposed to have Media Center 2005. I'm going to re-install, with the Media Center 2005 system disc,that came with the computer if that doesn't work, I'm returning the computer to the store. That is what I would do.
Hopefully it was an improper installation but you have the correct media. If the disc says 2005, you should not have any problems. -- Jupiter Jones http://www3.telus.net/dandemar http://www.dts-l.org "js" wrote in message ... Thanks guys for your help. Please Help!!!
donovan92y presented the following explanation :
Ok, I don't normally do this stuff, because people never answer me, but this is SERIOUS! I have a Maxtor 180GB external HDD. It won't power up with the power source anymore. All of my work from Baghdad is in that HDD. Is there some way I can put it inside my Gateway Desktop and have it work? I tried before, and nothing happened. PLEASE HELP! donovan92y, All your work from Baghdad! I would find a competent computer repair shop, not a Best Buy... Maybe a local disk recovery service, would be best... A Ben Myers type... I would not take the chance with your irreplaceable work. JR the postman |

As has been said, professional data recovery service (Not a small local shop, they do not have the resouces). Seagate and Iomega offer their services. The more you mess, the lower the chances of recovery. If this was a low value item, I might suggest dismantling the external cage, and using the hard drive as an internal. HOWEVER your work is irreplacable. Don't attempt (any further). |
