Default Will my Dell Notebook be dual monitor capable?

I just bought a new Dell 5160 notebook. The sales guy said that it has vga
port to connect an external monitor.

If I connect an external monitor,
1. will it be a 2nd monitor like a dual monitor capable adapter (or)
2. Will my notebook display blackout and I will have to view the external
monitor (or)
3. Will the notebook display and external monitor display exactly the same
screen.

Thanks.

If your laptop has an owners manual, that would be the first place to
look for answers to your questions.

Sure, but I have just ordered the laptop.

If anyone has a dell 5100, 5160 or probably any recent laptop with a vga
port at the back knows if an external monitor connected to this vga port
works as a dual monitor allowing windows to be moved from from screen to
another etc.
