Default Notebook Battery

I have a Presario 1525US and I just got a second battery, basically because
the battery is so bad when you are using it without ac power, I only get
like 1:15 to 1:30 hours of use from a single battery before I have to
recharge again. So when I switch battery's after one is drained, do I have
to power off the computer before I switch or can I just switch with it
connected via a/c power?

Thanks.
