Default question about possible graphics card upgrade

i have been happily using a geforce 2 pro for the past year and unfortunatly it has been put into retirement. luckily my mate had an old card lying around which is a geforce 4 mx 440 (i know its ****e but its only a temp) i was thinking about a fx5700 series card. here is the spec from the site

a.. Graphics Engine GeForce FXT5700
a.. Video Memory 256M DDR
a.. Engine Clock 425MHz
a.. Memory Clock 500MHzHz(250MHz DDR)
a.. RAMDAC 400MHz
a.. Bus Standard AGP 8x/4X/2X
a.. Memory Interface 128-bit DDR
a.. Max Resolution 2048x1536
a.. VGA Output Standard 15-pin D-sub
a.. TV Output S-VHS and Composite
a.. DVI Output DVI-I
a.. 2nd VGA Output Yes
a.. Adaptor/Cable bundled TV out adaptor
a.. DVI-to-2nd VGA adaptor

would this be a good upgrade card

thanks alot

When u call a MX440 ****e - the FX5700 is not much better especially in terms of performance. Better go for a FX 6xxx provided your psu is up to it.

Steve, you knothead stop giving bad advice. If sp wanted a 6xxx series
he whould of asked about it. Also, you are wrong: the 440MX is a lame
dog compared to the rest of the G4 line. Also, the only FX card that is
a waste of cash is the FX5200 (slower that the G4ti5200). My G4ti4200
and 4800 both blew it away even in dx9. The FX5700 is faster esp. on a
newer CPU/mobo (2.5 GHz+ or so).

Right now the best bang for the money are the 5700 or 5800 series,
assuming you are set on Nvidia. the 6000 series is just to pricey and
will require high end mobo, cpu, and memory for optimal performance.

Of course, it all depends on your computer use: some of us do more than
just play games. When deciding on a video, think about the rest of your
hardware and the applications that you will run.

As for your 5700, don't spend more than about about $100US. There are
128MB 5800 and 5900 for much less than $150.

A 5700 is mediocre. I suggest the 5900 instead.
