Default Lenovo vs. Inspiron

During the HP vs. Dell thread the thought of getting a Lenovo Thinkpad
seemed appealing if Dell no longer offers the $750 off coupon in the
future. The Thinkpad has durability, great keyboard, and overall cool
factors as pluses.

When I went to price one though I found what I have always found when
I have looked at Thinkpads. The base price starts out reasonable, but
the components at that price require upgrades that end up making it
much more expensive than an Inspiron. Case in point -- predictably,
the base price only includes 512M RAM.

From a performance / value perspective of someone who doesn't have an
unlimited budget, Dell still makes the most sense (for me). There are
still often $300 off coupons for models that start with better base
hardware.

I do realize that Lenovo's are more for business customers so it's not
Apples vs. Apples (hmm, lol not the right fruit in this context).
Also, I noticed they took the red strips off of the trackpad buttons,
so that cuts down a little on the cool factor (the pointy stick is red
though, which is good for aesthetic purposes even if I'd never use
it). jk, sort of:-)

You pretty much nailed it.
The Levano laptops are awesome. But they are definitely not for the budget
minded.

Another thing to consider...the slots. At least the Lenovo ThinkPad
T60 has a Type II PC Card Slot in addition to an Express Card Slot.
The Inspirons only have an Express Card Slot.
