Front Panel Wiring
I'm in the middle of removing the components from one system (a working
and fairly new P4 system, Intel Mobo, Antec P/S), and installing them into a new case. The new case comes with its own power supply (also an Antec) which I would like to use in place of the old one. I think I've pretty much figured out everything but I'm having a problem figuring out the front panel connectors. More specifically, while the available connectors from the new box match up with current connectors (using the labels printed on the sides), the wiring colours for the new POWER and RESET connectors don't match up. Applicable SSI Pinouts ---------------------- Pin Description Current New Connectors Matches --- ---------------- ---------------- -------------- ------- 1 POWER LED anode green green yes 3 KEY 5 POWER LED cathode black (ground) black (ground) yes 7 HDD LED anode red (+5V) red (+5V) yes 9 HDD LED cathode black (ground) black (ground) yes 11 POWER blue (-12V) red (+5V) NO 13 POWER ground white (-5.5V) black (ground) NO 15 RESET red (+5V) white (-5.5V) NO 17 RESET ground white (-5.5V) black (ground) NO (The voltage numbers I added in myself, so I don't know whether they're meaningful in this context.) If I wire up the new front panel connectors as shown above: a) Nothing will happen, but magic smoke will eventually emanate from my system; b) The LEDs will flash Morse Code corresponding to undocumented BIOS beep codes; or c) Everything will work just fine. The wires used on the original connectors simply have the wrong colours. Thanks. |

The only front panel connectors you don't want to install backwards are the
USB and Firewire. The others should work fine or reverse them "Alan Carlson" wrote in message . .. If the connections all match up, don't worry ! for the power and reset switches it doesn't matter about the colors.. (all either switch does is shorts two wires together momentarily) Regards, Chris |

This will be a server box, so serial connections will rule the day. Regardless, I'll take the time out and have a closer look at how USB, Firewire, etc. would be connected. |
