Hi Ron. I just went through a very similar situation with a Presario 5070.
Couldn't open anything. Just got a very quick flash of the hour glass. I was
able to boot into save mode by using the f-8 key as soon as the splash
screen appeared, then everything was OK. Used the start-up tab on the win
configuration and tried things one at a time.
Finally, when I got to preventing the two entries for the ez-keys (fast
launch keys on the keyboard...whatever compaq called it) I was then able
to get a good working boot in normal mode. Hope this gives you some help,
or at least an idea of what may be causing the problem on your
end..........Tom in Mt.
