I was just thinking how wonderful life was, when Gamma
cat.catcocatm
opened his gob and said:

As he says £30 for a build is trivial compared to his time, I guess
sending away a PC for repair is also similarly as trivial.

Especially as I have several PCs and regularly backup across the LAN.
Zero downtime.

Of course, Punisher is assuming that the company would make one send
back the whole PC just for some iffy memory. I would expect a company,
once convinced of the problem, would send out replacement memory. Far
cheaper for them and better for the customer.

Trevor writes:

If you think you have the skill to configure a PC to your
specification build the frigging thing yourself as well then.

The skills required to choose and specify PC components are not the
same as those required to assemble the parts. Specifying and choosing
the components is a mental/intellectual activity while assembling the
PC requires skills involving manual dexterity (and in the case of at
least some proccessor cooling systems, strength). Even a minor
physical disability, such as arthritic fingers, would prevent or make
it difficult to assemble a PC but would be no bar to being able to
specify the components to be used.
