Ti4200 driver problem with new games
Mobo: Gigabyte 8KNXP v2.0, Award Bios version FH
Graphics: MSI Ti4200/8x, Bios version 4.28.20.05.11 OS: XP Home SP2, all the latest updates No Overclocking Although I'm not a serious gamer, at age 43, who can be a serious gamer, I downloaded some new demo versions of racecar games: GTR Racing, demo v1.00 and v2.00 and Nascar SimRacing 2005. All three programs start with a 3Dconfig programs which detect and set the videocard. In my case all three 3dconfig programs crashed on startup. I was running the lastest videodriver of MSI, 6681, installed through their LiveUpdate. Via MSI Liveupdate I downgraded my driver two steps, to 6177, still three crashes on 3dconfig. I removed my videocard config from XP, ending up, after reboot, with the basic driver of the orginal XP SP1 CD. Tried 3dconfig again: It didnt crash, but reported that the driver wasnt Directx 8.1 compatible and I should get the latest drivers from my vendor. Ok, redownloaded and reinstalled MSI 6681 and again 3dconfig crashed. Again deleted my videocard from XP, bringing me back to the old non-DirectX 8.1 driver. Used Microsoft Update to get the latest driver for my Ti4200. This gave me version 4523, which I think is very far away from 6177/6681 supplied by MSI. But believe it or not, all three 3Dconfig work and the games play. Well thank you MS for supplying drivers that work, and shame on you MSI for supplying drivers that dont work. Is there any logic in this ? Regards, Ronald (who almost lost his joy in the new demo's) |

The latest MSI drivers are for the LATEST MSI VIDEO CARDS; not for an older
card like the 4200. The 45.23 driver, an older one, is the most stable for that card. -- DaveW "Ronald" wrote in message ... You're never too old .... download a driver from NVIDIA.. For my 3300 I use
the 44.03 drivers... the newer drivers are for the newer cards. "Ronald" wrote in message ...
