Default does DVD media die?

After I bought my newest computer this year I bought various cheap meadia
to experiment with. Among them was a 25-pack of "Value Disc" DVD+R from
OfficeMax, and I thought it performed as well asn anything. (Can't say
the same about "TEON" blanks from Staples, which they are still selling as
promotional items, which had a high failure rate.) They were probably
purchased last Janaury.

Recently I bought another stack of 50 Value Disc for non-critical copies,
and decided I should use up my old stock first. Every copy craps out
(freezes the player) toward the end of the recording.

I realize that we aren't talking quality product here, but is this typical
of blank DVD media, that it has a short shelf life?

Yes this is typical of cheap crap media. You can get top quality stuff on
sale if you look for it.
