Burner Help Needed

I'm having trouble recording CD's using a DVD burner. I have used the
recorder to create a DVD successfully, but seem only to be able to make
coasters when I use CD's. The hardware and software specifications are
below.

OS: Windows 2000 SP3

Computer: AMD 1500+, 256Mb RAM

Softwa Nero 5.5.10.42 and Roxio Easy CD DVD Creator 6

Cable: 80-pin IDE

Writer: TDK DVDRW0404N Firmware 1.06
Secondary IDE - Master
UDMA
Packet, TAO, DAO, SAO, RAW SAO, RAW SAO 96, RAW DAO 96

Media: TDK 80min CDR as well as some generics (didn't matter)

Reader: Toshiba DVD ROM Firmware 1008
Secondary IDE - Slave
PIO

Hard Drive: 80Gb Seagate IDE
Primary IDE - Master
UDMA

ASPI: WINASPI32.DLL v.2.0.1.59 July 9, 2003 (Nero)

a) Attempting to burn an Audio CD (although same results with Data CD; CD
Image).
b) The hard drive light comes on and stays on.
c) The DVD writer light comes on and stays on.
d) The 1st progress bar immediately (within a few seconds) goes to 100%.
(Roxio only, Nero only has 1 bar))
e) The 2nd progress bar get to 4%. (Nero and Roxio; note Nero only has 1
bar)
f) The activity says its writing the Table of Contents, TOC, (Lead-In in
Nero).
g) The dialog box is active (allowed to Cancel) although nothing seems to
happen.

Must actually turn off power to get out of this. No error messages or
anything!
Sure enough, upon restart, CD contains listing of the CDA files (TOC) but it
won't play so it looks like the TOC got written before cessation of the
process.

Any help please
