Copying "protected" CD ?
'nuther Bob spewed forth with the following drivel: I need some help trying to fix a problem... my daughter has a game CD that is scratched and will not install on her new computer. A half dozen files are damaged on the CD. I copied everything that was good off the CD, then I located the files that had errors on the CD in the directories on her old computer (they are read onlys that don't get changed by the game) and I managed to rebuild the contents of the CD on a hard drive. Everything matches perfectly. I then created a CD from the restored "image". Unfortunately, when I go to install, the program comes up after a bit and says "media authentication failed". I assume that there is some "copy protection" marker on the original CD that is not present on the CD I burned. Is there some way to copy this information from the original CD to the new one ? Or is there some way to do a "copy" of the original CD and then replace some of the files that are damaged with new ones ? My CD software is Nero. Thanks, Bob Either www.gamecopyworld.com or www.gameburnworld.com will give you the info you desire. Buster -- Gatekeeper: alt.os.windows-xp |

A half dozen files are damaged on the CD. How badly is it scratched, and on which side? If the top of the CD is scratched such that you can see through it, you're screwed...but if it's the bottom that's scratched, you might be able to resurface it with a CD repair kit (should be able to find one anyplace that sells CD-related accessories... try your local electronics and office-supply stores). It'll level the surface (whether by filling in the scratch or removing material above the scratch, I'm not sure) so that it should read properly again. _/_ Scott Alfter / v \ (IIGS( http://alfter.us Top-posting! \_^_/ pkill -9 /bin/laden What is the most annoying thing on Usenet? -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.2.2 (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQE/L+RgVgTKos01OwkRAkYHAJ0SXMLvrgrl2OB5v8a1bNUaJYahLg CfTcvZ dGvYL/JL9hsjS9JMn5aR4yA= =uNV9 -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- |

You may be able to make a 'bit for bit' copy using Clone CD??
