Default Presario 2172US

Just bought a new Compaq Presario 2172 Ahtlon that is advertised as 2500+
and is supposed to go at 1.87 GHz. When I go into System Information, it
says 519 MHz. Why is that happeneing and what can I do about it. I have
had the machine about a week.

Were you running on batteries or plugged into the wall? On batteries, it
likely slows down to preserve battery life.

Interesting

Plugged in or not it is coming up at 519MB, but when we hit cancel it goes
to 1.875 GHz and stays there.

Well MB is memory, so this must be a typo. Have you tried querying the
system setup via F10? A new system with a problem would have me
returning to the store ASAP, especially if only after a week or two.

I meant MHz

my kid is heading to west coast and needs it for trip. Returning to store
is not an option, since it was shipped from Compaq directly after being
bought at Staples

the f10 is worth a look

Understood. Still, it can't hurt to call at least call Staples and tell them
what
is going on. They could at least open a ticket for you while it is still under
warranty. Just a thought.

I had this problem, goto control panel click on power options , where it
says power schemes set it to always on, that should sort it out.
