Default Fan of Compaq nx9005 DG832 always on

Hi all!

My brand-new Compaq nx9005 DG832 (the AMD 2000+ w/256mb &
DVD-CDRW-combo) is a real nice machine besides a huge, huge BUT: the fan
(the outgoing one on the side of the machine) is always on, when I start
the machine it starts as well and it keeps going on and on (ok,
occasionally it stops, but whenever I hit a key on the keyboard it
starts running again). I am used to fans running a couple of secs or
minutes at startup time or when a notebook is under heavy load, but this
one really starts to get annoying. Has anyone experiences similar
behaviour or is mine (the fan) simply faulty?

Thx and cheers,
Roger

Hi folks!

It comes from triple posting the same post..

@doS: No, I checked that, I tried single, double, triple and even
quadruple posting - to no effect. Next thing I did was installing a news
reader which knew what to do with recalled posts - wow, that really did
the trick!

I installed the PowerNow! software and using the PowerNow dashboard
software (also from AMD) I can see that my chip drops down from
running at 1.3Ghz to about 500Mhz (obviously it zooms back up to full
speed when it needs it), the end result is that the chip runs a LOT
cooler. My fan noise is barely

@happy canuck: Thx for the tips. What exactly do you mean by PowerNow!
software? I have installed the dashboard, but it already shows that the
NB speed is increasing and decreasing according to the needed
performance, so I assume that the drivers have been already installed.

Could you please post a link to the PowerNow! software/drivers so I'm
sure we're talking about the very same thing?

Thx and cheers,
Roger
